SMK Screensaver for Apple TV
Support, licensing, and privacy information for the tvOS screensaver showcasing public-domain artworks from SMK (Statens Museum for Kunst).
How to use
Slideshow
- Previous / next artwork: When the artwork detail panel is closed, press left or right on the Siri Remote to move between images.
- Automatic advance: The slideshow advances on a timer (about every 10 seconds by default). While the detail panel is open, automatic advance pauses.
- Attribution overlay: A short caption may appear over the image and then fade; this is intentional and credits the work on screen.
Artwork details & QR code
- Open or close details: Tap the touch surface of the Siri Remote, or press Play/Pause.
- The detail screen shows title, artist, date, type, and a QR code. Scanning the code opens the artwork’s page on the SMK website in your phone’s browser so you can read more.
- Close details: Press Menu (Back) on the Siri Remote.
Settings — Credits & Rights
Long press (press and hold for about one second) on the Siri Remote touch surface to open Settings. There you will find credits, source information, and a link to SMK’s policy on free download of images.
Network & storage
The app ships with curated artwork metadata and may load high-resolution images over the internet from SMK (including IIIF image services). Images can be cached on your Apple TV to improve performance and reduce repeat downloads; cache entries expire after a period of time.
An internet connection may be required when an image is not yet available in the on-device cache or bundled preseeded files.
Troubleshooting
- If the app stays on loading or shows an error about collections or the slideshow, check that your Apple TV has a working network connection, then try quitting and reopening the app.
- If the first image cannot be prepared, wait a moment and relaunch; persistent failures may indicate connectivity or a corrupted install—removing and reinstalling the app can help.
Licensing & attribution
All artworks displayed are from the collection of SMK – Statens Museum for Kunst (National Gallery of Denmark).
Images are used under public domain (CC0) or equivalent open licenses as indicated by SMK. Only items designated for open use are included in the curated sets used by this app.

Last updated: 13 May 2026
This screensaver app does not require an account and does not collect personal data for analytics. We do not log what you view on our servers, and we do not sell personal information.
To show artworks, the app retrieves image files and related metadata from SMK and associated services over the network, as described above. Those requests are handled by SMK’s infrastructure (and any intermediaries involved in normal web delivery) according to their practices. The app may store downloaded images in local cache on your device only to operate the slideshow.
Apple may collect diagnostic or usage information according to your device and system privacy settings; that processing is governed by Apple, not by this app’s developer, except where we would be responsible under applicable law.
If this policy changes, we will update this page and revise the “Last updated” date.
